The hyper-inflammatory status described in COVID-19 patients is seemingly able to affect male sexual function, possibly due to the possible negative effects on endothelial function and pulmonary hemodynamics; however, subclinical hypogonadism has also been reported in COVID-19 patients, most likely as a result of Leydig cell impairment . On the other hand, while COVID-19 is not a sexually transmitted infection by definition, there is the high risk of transmitting the infection while kissing or having sex – thus increasing the psychological distress.
In these regards, COVID-19 survivors might require more attention by the andrologist in order to prevent the development of sexual dysfunctions and to promote early intervention if needed.
